MOQ for Leather Protective Cases Everything You Need to Know
When shopping online, we often buy more items in order to reach the minimum spending amount required for a discount, so you are probably already familiar with the concept of Minimum Order Quantity (MOQ).
For businesses, leather goods manufacturers and wholesalers often require each order to reach a certain quantity or order value. Although minimum order quantities may limit some smaller orders, they help manufacturers manage material sourcing, production setup, customization costs, and production efficiency, while also providing buyers with more consistent quality, stable pricing, and reliable production planning.
What is Minimum Order Quantity (MOQ)?
MOQ stands for Minimum Order Quantity. It means the minimum purchase quantity a supplier requires before accepting a production order.
If you buy phone cases from a retail store, you will usually buy only one or two. However, if you want a factory to customize a phone case according to your brand requirements, including specific materials, colors, and a logo, the factory may tell you, “The minimum order quantity for this product is 500 units.” In this case, 500 units is the MOQ for that product.
Retail involves selling products that have already been made, while custom manufacturing requires a series of preparations for each order before production can begin. Therefore, manufacturers usually set a minimum production quantity.
The Two Most Common Minimum Order Quantity Methods
1. Calculated by quantity: For example, minimum order of 100 pieces.
2. Calculated by amount: For example, orders of $2000 or more will be shipped.
Regardless of the method, this minimum order quantity represents the minimum requirement for a supplier to make a profit on a given order. Setup costs, administrative expenses, the minimum quantity of raw materials the supplier must order, and other factors can all affect this calculation.
Why Do Manufacturers Need to Set an MOQ?
Setting an MOQ helps ensure that each order covers its costs and allows both sides to make a profit. Take custom logos as an example. Even if a customer orders only a few dozen units, the factory still needs to confirm the logo file, choose the application method, adjust the logo position, set up the equipment, and test the actual result before production begins. These preparation steps do not decrease just because the order quantity is smaller.
If the order quantity is too small, these upfront costs can only be spread across a small number of products, so the unit cost will naturally increase. When the production quantity reaches a reasonable level, the factory can arrange materials, labor, and production lines using its normal batch production process.
- Minimum Raw Material Purchase Quantity
- Color and Material Preparation
- Equipment and Production Line Setup
- Logo Process Preparation
- Molds and Fixtures
- Packaging Preparation
- Labor and Quality Control
- Production Scheduling
The main purpose of setting an MOQ is not to ask customers to “buy more.” It is to bring an order to a quantity suitable for batch production, allowing upfront costs to be spread more reasonably while helping buyers receive more consistent product specifications, production quality, and unit costs.
Our Minimum Order Quantity
For custom phone cases, tablet cases, earphone cases, smart glasses cases, watch straps, and other tech accessories, our standard production minimum order quantity is 500 pieces per SKU.
1 Equipment Model
1 Product Style
1 Color
Example: iPhone 18 Pro + Style A + Black = 1 production SKU = minimum order quantity of 500 pieces.
MOQ Example
Our minimum order quantity is calculated based on individual production SKUs, rather than combining the quantities of different models, styles, or colors directly.
| Order Combination | Result | Explanation |
|---|---|---|
| 500 pcs iPhone 18 Pro + Style A + Black | Meets MOQ | One device model, one product style, and one color are treated as one production SKU. |
| 250 pcs Black + 250 pcs Brown | Usually Cannot Be Combined | Different colors usually require separate material preparation and production arrangements. |
| 250 pcs iPhone 18 Pro + 250 pcs iPhone 18 Pro Max | Separate SKUs | Different device models usually require different shells, molds, or production configurations. |
| 500 pcs Same SKU + Custom Logo | Usually Applicable | Standard logo customization can usually be applied to the same production batch without changing the standard MOQ. |
MOQ Rules for Functional Custom
Within our existing product structures and manufacturing processes, you can choose from magnetic attachment, MagSafe compatibility, built-in stands, lanyards, and cardholder features based on your project needs.
If all 500 units use the same structure and feature configuration, the order can generally be produced under our standard MOQ.
If one order combines different configurations—for example, 250 units with MagSafe and 250 units without MagSafe—the MOQ will need to be reconfirmed based on the product structure and manufacturing method.
If the different features require different base cases, components, or separate production processes, they may be treated as separate production SKUs.

How Is Product Pricing Calculated?
Our custom products do not have a single fixed price. The final quotation is calculated based on the confirmed product specifications, customization requirements, and order quantity.
Standard Customization
If an existing phone case structure only requires changes to the leather material, color, or the addition of a logo, these requirements are generally considered standard customization.
New Product Development
If the customer requires the development of a completely new stand structure, a completely new case design, a charging module, or dedicated components, additional development and tooling costs may apply.

FAQ
Possibly. New molds, custom components, or special materials usually have their own minimum production or purchasing requirements. The exact MOQ will be reconfirmed based on the specific project.
Standard customization options, such as logos, materials, colors, MagSafe compatibility, stands, and lanyards, usually follow our standard MOQ. If the project requires a special structure, special materials, or custom components, the MOQ may need to be evaluated separately.
Different colors and device models usually require different materials, base cases, molds, or separate production scheduling and machine setup. Therefore, they are treated as separate production SKUs.
Our standard MOQ is 500 units per SKU. Orders below this quantity are evaluated case by case based on the custom product, materials, and production requirements.
