Sample development lets you check a physical sample against your design requirements and identify any changes needed before mass production.
For a phone case prototype, we check device fit, camera cutouts, button response, magnetic component placement, and the quality of the leather wrapping and bonding. These checks help confirm whether the case meets the agreed requirements for appearance, assembly, and everyday use.
Depending on the project, samples also undergo relevant internal inspections and reliability testing to identify potential issues with the structure, materials, or manufacturing process. The results guide further revisions and pre-production sample (PPS) approval.

Once the first prototype is completed, our independent quality department checks its dimensions, device fit, structure, appearance, functions, and applicable reliability requirements. A written inspection and risk assessment report is then provided for your review.
Development Sample vs. Pre-Production Sample
A development sample is used to test and refine the product, while a pre-production sample (PPS) is used to confirm the final production requirements.
If substitute materials, manual processes, or temporary tooling are used to produce a development sample, we will explain how they differ from the intended mass production requirements before the sample is made or submitted for inspection.
PPS Approval and Sample Retention
After PPS approval, the client retains one approved PPS as a physical reference, while the factory keeps a matching approved sample. Both samples are linked to the same approval record or sample number.
The factory also retains the corresponding product specification documents for internal production and quality control.
Sample Development Lead Time
The sample development lead time depends on the product structure, material availability, target device model, tooling requirements, and functional complexity. The final lead time and the development stages it covers will be confirmed after project evaluation.

Sample Development Fees and Revision Responsibilities
Quotation Breakdown
Before sample production begins, we provide an itemized quotation listing:
- Sample production fees
- Tooling costs
- Material costs
- Shipping costs
Future revision fees are not included in the first sample quotation. If you later request design changes, we will assess and confirm the costs before making a revised sample.
The fee covers only the first sample made according to the development plan agreed by both parties. It does not include subsequent design changes requested by the client.
If you change the design, dimensions, materials, or functions, we will review the changes and confirm any additional labor and material costs before making the revised sample.
For eligible bulk orders of the same SKU, the sample production fee can be credited toward the order total.
Material, tooling, and shipping costs are not eligible for credit. Eligibility and credit terms will be specified in the project quotation.
If a sample fails to meet the specifications agreed before sample production because of a manufacturing error on our part, we will remake it without charging another sample production fee.

No. Free samples are limited to stock samples or samples of existing products. Custom development is assessed and quoted separately based on materials, structure, tooling, functions, and shipping requirements.
Yes. Eligible sample production fees can be credited toward a bulk order of at least 3,000 units of the same SKU. Material, tooling, and shipping costs are excluded. Your quotation specifies the eligibility and credit terms.
Yes. Updated inspection and risk assessment reports can be provided on request, based on the scope of the revisions.
No. Design changes you request are quoted separately. If a sample fails to meet the agreed specifications due to our manufacturing error, we remake it without an additional sample production fee.
Not always. With mutual agreement, initial samples may use existing structures, temporary tooling, or manual processes. Production mold requirements are confirmed after reviewing the product structure, device model, functions, and validation needs.
